Nadia (West Bengal) [India], June 24 (ANI): As Trinamool Congress' candidate Alifa Ahmed swept the recently concluded West Bengal's Kaliganj assembly bypolls, she dedicated her victory to the people and thanked Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the victory.
"There is only one factor for Trinamool, we work for the common man. We have never weaponised religion, like others. Our party stays with the people every day and works for their support, that is why people blessed us, so I think of them all," Ahmed told ANI after celebrating her victory in Nadia.
The TMC Leader won the bypolls by a margin of more than 50 thousand votes, defeating Bharatiya Janata Party's Ashish Ghosh and Congress's Kabil Uddin Shaikh.
While thanking the people of Kaliganj for blessing her with this victory, she also extended her gratitude to party leaders, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her district president and party MP.
"My victory is dedicated to the people of Kaliganj. I want to thank our CM, Mamata Banerjee, because her struggles and principles inspire me daily and works for the people. I also would like to thank our 'dada' Abhishek Banerjee, as he helped with organisational efforts and with that I would like to remember my father. Somewhere, his fight and struggles and love for people led me to this path. I want to thank others and Mahua di, our district president here," she said.
Earlier, the results for the bypolls of 5 assembly constituencies across West Bengal (Kaliganj), Gujarat (Kadi and Visavadar), Punjab (Ludhiana West), and Kerala (Nilambur) were declared by the Election Commission.
TMC's Alifa Ahmed secured 1,02,759 votes, defeating BJP candidate Ashish Ghosh, who secured 52,710 votes, and Congress' Kabil Uddin Shaik, who got 28,348 votes.
The by-poll in the constituency was necessitated after the death of TMC leader Nasiruddin Ahmed.
Earlier, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her deep gratitude to the voters, thanking them for their overwhelming support after her party took the lead on the Kaliganj seat.
In a social media post on X, Chief Minister Banerjee wrote, "In the by-election of the Kaliganj Assembly constituency, people from all religions, castes, communities, and all walks of life have overwhelmingly blessed us by exercising their voting rights. I humbly express my gratitude to them."
She credited the victory to the guiding values of Maa-Mati-Manush (Mother, Soil, People), emphasising, "The main architect of this victory is Maa-Mati-Manush. My colleagues in Kaliganj have worked tirelessly for this, and I extend my sincere congratulations to them as well." (ANI)
