Udaipur (Rajasthan) [India], June 23 (ANI): Former Rajasthan Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vasundhara Raje Scindia on Sunday took a veiled political dig at an event in Rajasthan's Udaipur, stating that the old era of loyalty was "different".
However, she did not name anyone.
The BJP leader was addressing an event organised by Shri Sundar Singh Bhandari Charitable Trust to mark the death anniversary of two political icons Syama Prasad Mukherjee and Sundar Singh Bhandari.
"Bhandariji ne Bhairon Singhji sahit kitne hi netaon ko aage badhaya, par wafa ka who daur alag tha [Bhandariji promoted many leaders including Bhairon Singhji (former Vice President of India Bhairon Singh Shekhawat), but that era of loyalty was different]. At that time, people used to believe in what someone did, but today people try to cut off the finger they once held while learning to walk. Bhandariji did not lie. During the emergency, the police asked for his name at Delhi Railway Station. He told the truth and was arrested", Raje said.
After the announcement of Rajasthan assembly poll results in 2023, the BJP reportedly sidelined Scindia, naming Bhajan Lal Sharma as the state Chief Minister.
Meanwhile, recalling Shayam Prasad Mukherjee, the former Rajasthan CM said, "Dr Mukherjee opposed the provisions of Section 370, which was removed by Narendra Modi's government. Bhandari remained dedicated to the Sangh throughout his life. During the British era, Bhandari ji was told that he could not run a branch without registration. The answer was I could stop living, but not stop organising 'branches'"
Vasundhara Raje Scindia further recalled her mother, Vijaya Raje Scindia.
"My mother formed the Jan Sangh government in Madhya Pradesh for the first time in the country in 1967 and made Govind Narayan Singh the CM. Then, Bhandari had written a letter expressing happiness. Mother gave us the values of Sangh since childhood", she said.
"There was a branch of Sangh in our house many times. We got guidance from patriots like Atal ji, Advani ji, Rajmata Saheb, Bhairon Singh ji, Sunder Singh ji Bhandari, Rajju Bhaiya, KS Sudarshan ji, Dattopant Thengadi ji and Kushabhav Thackeray ji", added the BJP leader.
Assam Governor Gulab Chand Katariya was also present at the event. (ANI)
