"Utterly failing...": BRS' K Kavitha slams Telangana government amid drought issue

"Telangana is blessed with abundant water resources. We, in BRS, harnessed those resources by building the world's largest lift irrigation scheme. There is no way Telangana can be pushed into drought because, in 10 years of BRS rule, all villages had access to full water in the summer. We produced more paddy during summer," Kavitha told ANI.

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], March 19 (ANI): Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha on Wednesday protested against the Telangana government while pressing on the issues being faced by farmers in the state, including drought and water scarcity.
She said that villages, even in summer, had access to water during the BRS government rule in the State.
She criticised the current government, accusing it of being unable to manage water resources effectively and failing to prevent water diversion to Andhra Pradesh.
"This government is not able to manage the water and prevent it from being diverted to Andhra Pradesh. As a result, our farmers are suffering. It is very silly of the Chief Minister and the government to blame the weather. They are saying, 'there is too much sun. what can we do?'" Kavitha said.
"We managed in the last 10 years to give water to the farmers. This government is utterly failing in that. We demand that the Chief Minister pay attention to the situation on the ground and help the farmers," she added.
Her protest on the farmers' issues comes as the Telangana government tabled the state budget for the year 2025-26.
Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Wednesday tabled the 2025-26 state budget in the ongoing assembly session, saying that the state government was focusing on advancement in technology, transport, infrastructure, and environment conservation.
The Telangana Budget for the fiscal year 2025-26, proposes a total expenditure of Rs 3,04,965 crore, with revenue expenditure of Rs 2,26,982 crore and capital expenditure of Rs 36,504 crore.
The budget proposed allocating Rs 40,232 crore to the Scheduled Caste (SC) welfare department and Rs 17,169 crore to the Scheduled Tribe welfare department. Moreover, Rs 11,405 crore has been proposed to be allocated to the Backward Classes welfare department, followed by Rs 3,591 crore for the minority welfare department and Rs 2,862 crore for the women and child welfare department.
