Uttarakhand: Tourists frolic in snow but residents in trouble after heavily snowfall
Dehradun, (Uttarakhand), [India], Jan. 7 (ANI): The heavy rains and subsequent snowfall in Uttarakhand have definitely brightened the mood of tourists who were waiting for the weather to take a flurry turn, but it has also made daily life an uphill task for the locals who are facing the herculean task of battling blocked roads and frequent power cuts. Most of the roads have been blocked, electricity supply is hampered and the sudden climatic change has put a dent in normal life. Director of regional Met department, Vikram Singh referring to the climatic change on Saturday said that in hilly regions temperature will be in minus and rainfall along with snowfall will also be experienced. "The western disturbance seemed to approach around January 6 and this time it is strong and active. Because of that for the next two days in most of the places in the state there will be snowfall with rain and its intensity will also increase simultaneously. Since last night itself, the weather started to change in Uttarakhand," Singh said. The rainfall is said to continue for the next 24 hours. Those places which are above 2000 meters will experience snowfall while in other places rainfall is to be noticed. Internal districts such as Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag and Bageshwar may experience heavy snowfall in some parts, especially those places which are at a height of 3, 000 metres and above, statement by Singh read. Entire state has been experiencing drastic climatic change. It is said to slow down by tomorrow noon. Last year there wasn't enough rainfall in the region, which was for recorded as 16 mm. The average rainfall has gone up to 90 mm. "As you can see our agricultural is mostly depended on the rainfall only, and because of last year's rainfall most of the processes were not carried out further. But this rainfall will benefit the farmers in compensating the previous year's loss. This rainfall was favorable for them," Singh added. (ANI)
