Uri attack: Death toll rises to 19 as another solider succumbs to injuries
New Delhi [India], Sept. 30 (ANI): The death toll of Army personnel in the deadly Uri terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir rose to 19 on Friday, as another solider succumbed to his injuries. Naik Raj Kishor Singh was under treatment at the RR Hospital in the national capital where he breathed his last. Meanwhile, India began the process of retaliation against Pakistan for the deadly Uri attack by carrying out 'surgical strikes' on terror launch pads at the LoC on Wednesday night. Surgical strikes were based on specific intelligence input of terror groups ready to infiltrate into India and carry out terror attacks. Seven terror launch pads were targeted+ across the LoC by special forces of the Indian Army during the 'surgical strike'. "Significant casualties have been caused in these strikes. The operation has now ended," DGMO Lt General Ranbir Singh said. "The operations were basically focused to ensure that these terrorists do not succeed in their design of infiltration and carrying out destruction and endangering the lives of citizens of our country. During these counter terrorist operations, significant casualties have been caused to the terrorists and those who are trying to support them. The operations aimed at neutralizing the terrorists have since ceased. We do not have any plans for continuation of further operations. However the Indian armed forces are fully prepared for any contingency that may arise," he added. Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will today hold a meeting with the top officials of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP) to review the security situation in border areas. (ANI)
