UP: Locals beat up man for alleged buffalo slaughter

Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 12 (ANI): A furore was witnessed in a locality in Aligarh, when the residents came to know about the alleged slaughter of a buffalo in a house there. The locals reached the spot and brutally thrashed the man suspected to have been involved. Meanwhile, five people have been arrested in connection with the alleged slaughter. As per locals, the children saw blood flowing into the drain from the house, after which they informed the people. The locals then gathered around creating a ruckus and informed the police. "They had called a butcher for slaughtering buffalo," alleged an agitated local. In the video, the man can be seen assaulted by the police and the locals and is then forcefully escorted out of the house. "We got information that a buffalo is being slaughtered at Kali Baghel's house. The Police reached the spot and arrested the people there. Total five people have been arrested," said the police. The Police has assured that an investigation is underway and appropriate action would be taken. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who is facing criticism from all quarters in connection with law and order situation in the state especially over the loss of lives at the hands of cow vigilantes, urged people not to act in haste but take the help of law to fight crime. Adityanath while addressing a gathering in Meerut earlier on Tuesday asked people to report the crime and let the law take its course. "There is no need to take law in hand; if you find something illegal happening around go to the police and let them act, you don't need to take law into your hand," Chief Minister Adityanath said in Meerut. "If there are reports of illegal slaughter houses being in the state, it's the duty of the law enforcing agencies to take firm action against them," he added. After coming to power, the Adityanath-led government had ordered the closure of illegal slaughterhouses and strict enforcement of the ban on cow smuggling to fulfil a key electoral promise. Adityanath earlier on March 25 said abattoirs operating legally will not be touched but action will be taken against those being run illegally. (ANI)
