Sant Kabir Nagar (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Mar 6 (ANI): Ugly scenes were witnessed at a meeting on developmental projects here on Wednesday with BJP MP Sharad Tripathi and party's Uttar Pradesh MLA Rakesh Singh Baghel thrashing each other.
BJP state president Mahendra Nath Pandey told ANI, "We have taken cognizance of this condemnable incident and both have been summoned to Lucknow. Strict disciplinary action will be taken."
During the meeting of the District Action Plan Committee at the Collectorate, the two lawmakers first engaged in a verbal duel over the placement of names, in terms of hierarchy, on a foundation stone of some development project.
Soon after, Tripathi took out his shoe and started thrashing the MLA.
Baghel retaliated and beat up the MP.
Other participants of the meeting intervened and separated the two lawmakers.
Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav was quick to criticise the BJP over the incident.
"Today, in Uttar Pradesh, an MP and an MLA of a party claiming to be the best disciplined in the world greeted each other with shoes. This is the reflection of dejection among them because of the impending defeat in the upcoming elections. The truth is that the BJP is not even getting candidates to contest polls," he tweeted. (ANI)
