Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], August 14 (ANI): Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) founder, Vaiko said on Wednesday that the Union Government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is betraying the interests of Tamils and Tamil Nadu particularly.
He said, "Union government headed by Narendra Modi is betraying the interest of Tamils and Tamil Nadu particularly. Modi government is against the Tamils, Sri Lankan Tamils, and democracy. In the next elections, they (BJP)cannot come, they will be thrown out by the people of Tamil Nadu."
Earlier, Vaiko accused the central government of being "partial to Karnataka" regarding the Mekedatu dam issue.
"If the Karnataka government makes any attempt to build the Mekedatu Dam, then India's unity will become a question mark? The central government is partial to supporting Karnataka," MDMK leader Vaiko said while speaking to ANI.
He further expressed confidence that all the political parties in Tamil Nadu oppose Mekedatu dam construction. "We won't allow it," he added.
Earlier in July, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) held protests across Tamil Nadu against the Centre, alleging that the state was neglected in the Union Budget 2024.
Earlier, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party government over the Union Budget and said that the budget seems like a "vengeful act" against the States and people who boycotted the BJP.
However, Union Minister Jitendra Singh highlighted significant benefits for Tamil Nadu and said that it is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for a developed India 2047.
Jitendra Singh said, "Every State including Tamil Nadu is getting its due Budget share and there is no room for politics."
The Minister said that Tamil Nadu has received among the highest railway budget allocations among all the states, with a total of RS 6,362 crores. The State also benefited from the introduction of six Vande Bharat trains and the development of 77 model Amrit Rail stations. The railway budget for Tamil Nadu has seen an eightfold increase compared to the UPA era, rising from Rs 879 crore to RS 6,362 crore, underscoring the central government's commitment to enhancing the state's transportation infrastructure.
