New Delhi [India], Oct. 13 (ANI): Christians has welcomed the move proposed by the Law Commission for setting up questionnaires seeking public opinion for formulating a Uniform Civil Code for all religion. Delhi Church Association spokesperson Father Savari Muthu Shankar said India as a society also needs to look beyond for common goals when it comes to gender equality and equality before law. "The Law Commission has sent a set of questions, therefore it is a starting point where we need to start thinking about the reforming, because we always believe that a law is always made in a historical context, and therefore, laws that are 100-150 years old and need to be reformed according to the present day situation," he said. "We are living in 21st century, so we need to have a relook at certain laws. Therefore, we always welcome reforms," he added The Law Commission has sought public opinion on the exercise of reforming family laws of all religions. The Commission has reportedly appealed to members of various religious, minority and social groups besides non-government organisations to express their views through questionnaires on a range of issues, including the practice of 'triple talaq', the right to property for a woman citizen and polygamy.(ANI)
