New Delhi [India], December 10 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Sambit Patra on Tuesday slammed the opposition, saying it is unfortunate that they are not allowing Parliament to function.
He also targeted Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi saying, "Rahul Gandhi ji doesn't know how to behave like an LoP."
Speaking to reporters, Patra said, "It is unfortunate that the Opposition is not letting the Parliament function. It is not dignified that they come wearing jackets, masks at times. I think they are mistaken in their understanding of democracy. It was surprising to see Rahul Gandhi recording people wearing masks. This is not how a Leader of Opposition behaves. Rahul Gandhi ji doesn't know how to behave like an LoP. This is not a fashion show going on in the Parliament."
Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned till Wednesday, December 11, amidst a ruckus in the House.
Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday targeted Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of not believing in parliamentary democracy.
"Whatever may be the issues, we should not disrupt the parliamentary proceedings. Many MPs including MPs from the Samajwadi Party, TMC and the Congress have come to me. The entire Congress party in Rajya Sabha are looking for debate and discussion in the House. It is only Rahul Gandhi who doesn't want to take part in the parliamentary proceeding. Probably Rahul Gandhi doesn't believe in parliamentary democracy. But all other MPs are very interested in having debates and discussions in the House. Every MP is concerned about their constituency," he said.
Earlier today, after a meeting of Congress Lok Sabha MPs chaired by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday said that the party leaders are trying to have a discussion in the Parliament but the ruling party does not want to do so.
"We try every day to have a discussion, but they don't want to have a discussion... that's why they get the House adjourned through some reason," Priyanka Gandhi Vadra told reporters.
"They (BJP) are scared of discussing the Adani issue. I am new in Parliament but till now the PM was not seen in the Parliament. Why should we not raise this issue?," she added.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said, "The BJP has no desire to run the House and the Speaker is obliging them...Shocking that the ruling party is disrupting the House."
The first session of the winter Parliament commenced on November 25, with both Houses getting adjourned fairly early due to disruptions. The winter session will go on till December 20. (ANI)
