Unfortunate that Kashmir is mourning death of a terrorist: Congress on Burhan Wani
New Delhi, July 9 (ANI): Asserting that Burhan Wani, the recently killed 22-year-old Hizbul Mujahideen commander, was nothing more than a terrorist, the Congress on Saturday condemned the mourning and protests in the valley over his death and said that it was unfortunate that people of Jammu and Kashmir were grieving over the death of a terrorist. Speaking to ANI here, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad emphasized that Wani in no way was an innocent person and that he had decided his own fate the moment he set on the path of becoming a terrorist. "The situation in the valley right now, be it the closed schools, colleges, cancelled exams and the halting of the Amarnath Yatra, is very said. It's unfortunate that the people of Kashmir mourn when a terrorist dies. It's condemnable when an innocent person dies at the hands of security forces, but why mourn when a terrorist is dead?" he said. Meanwhile, in Jammu and Kashmir, normal life across the valley has been affected in response to a joint shut down call all separatists organisation against the killing of Wani and his two associates yesterday evening. The militants were killed in an encounter in south Kashmir's Kokernag area of Anantnag district. The Army and J&K police have described his killing is blow to militancy and major success for security forces. In view of shut down call by separatists, the authorities have imposed curfew in Pulwama district and other south Kashmir areas. The restrictions are also in place in old city areas under six police stations in Srinagar. The mobile - internet and train services have been suspended. The Amarnath yatra has also been suspended as of now. Protests broke out today as Wani's funeral was carried out despite the curfew. According to reports, three people have been killed in the firing during the agitations which turned violent. (ANI)
