Uncertainty over Sidhu joining AAP continues
New Delhi, July 20 (ANI): With the ambiguity over former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu's decision to quit the BJP and join the AAP continuing for the third consecutive day, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday said that they were in touch with the former Rajya Sabha MP, but the date of him joining them was yet to be decided. AAP leader Aashutosh said the media was speculating on Sidhu's role in the party, adding that a decision on the their chief ministerial candidate in Punjab is yet to taken. "Whether there will be a chief ministerial candidate or not, if so, then who, are all matters yet to be decided. Let him join first," he told ANI. "He is in touch with us and we have also spoken, but it has not been decided when he would join,' he added. When asked about Congress' remark that its doors were open for Sidhu, Aashutosh said, "What stand does the Congress party have in Punjab. There is no need to react to anything Congress says." Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt. Amarinder Singh earlier said former Amritsar MP Navjot Singh Sidhu was welcome to the Congress if he desired so. "Congress' doors are open for everyone," he said. Capt. Amarinder, however, clarified that there was no communication between him and Sidhu on the matter. According to sources, both Sidhu and his wife Navjot Kaur, who is a BJP MLA from Amritsar, are likely to join the AAP next month, but only the latter may contest the elections on an AAP ticket. The AAP Constitution too doesn't allow two members of a family to hold any office within the party, including the elected post, sources added. They, meanwhile, refuted that Sidhu would be projected as the AAP chief ministerial candidate in Punjab, adding that he would be actively campaigning for party candidates in the elections. Sidhu's campaign may help AAP increase its tally as he has been attacking the incumbent Akali government openly. (ANI)
