Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], October 30 (ANI): Congress MP Mallu Ravi on Wednesday announced that a body of public representatives, including Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, has passed a unanimous resolution to ensure a caste census is conducted in Telangana. He added that the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) district president would appoint a coordinator in each district to oversee this initiative.
The decision followed a meeting at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad, where public representatives, including MPs, MLAs, and MLCs, gathered to discuss their roles in facilitating the caste census.
"In today's meeting, a decision was taken that all MPs, MLAs, MLCs, and chairpersons--all Congress leaders--are responsible for ensuring the caste census is conducted. The TPCC district president will appoint one coordinator per district. This decision was made by Rahul Gandhi, and if Rahul has decided, all leaders, including the Chief Minister, treat it as an order. The CM has conveyed this, and we have passed a unanimous resolution to implement Rahul Gandhi's directive for a caste census and to distribute resources according to each community's population," Ravi stated.
Prior to the meeting, Congress MP Ravi announced that the government would initiate the caste census from November 6.
"Today's meeting focused on the caste census. The government will commence the caste census on November 6, as I understand. The Chief Minister has called on all MPs, MLAs, MLCs, and other public representatives to participate. Only the census will reveal the true picture," he said.
Earlier, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara remarked on Tuesday that the public should be informed about the findings of the caste census report submitted by the Karnataka Backward Classes Commission in February. He warned that without discussion, the state government could face accusations of concealing the report. (ANI)
