Uma Bharti taunts Samajwadi Party, says condition of UP worse than J-K
New Delhi, July 10 (ANI): Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls scheduled next year, Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti has accused the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party of failing to tackle the deteriorating law and order situation and said the present situation in the most populous state is worse than that of Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking in an exclusive conversation with ETV News head Jagdeesh Chandra, Bharti expressed confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would form the next government with full majority in the politically crucial state of Uttar Pradesh next year. "Akhilesh Yadav has not got the opportunity to work as the chief minister as there are many super chief ministers in Uttar Pradesh," she said. Bharti further said that this was for the first time ever that the Samajwadi Party after grabbing power in Uttar Pradesh failed to deliver on the development front. "Earlier in the name of appeasement, some welfare works were done for the poor," she said. The 2017 Uttar Pradesh elections will serve as a litmus test for Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi as Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP looks optimistic of repeating its performance of the 2014 Lok Sabha polls in this state, which sends maximum MPs to the Parliament. It is to be noted here that the BJP had won 71 out of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in 2014. The Congress, which is making all efforts to re-establish its political stronghold in Uttar Pradesh in the assembly polls, managed to win just two seats of Gandhi family bastion of Amethi and Rae Bareilly in the general election. The ruling Samajwadi Party had emerged victorious from five seats while Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) was not even able to open its account. (ANI)
