New Delhi [India], Sept.9 (ANI): The Foreign and Commonwealth Office in the United Kingdom has announced the opening of Chevening South Asia Journalism Programme with the theme 'Good Governance in a Changing World: Media, Politics and Society'.

UK government announces opening of Chevening South Asia journalism programme
New Delhi [India], Sept.9 (ANI): The Foreign and Commonwealth Office in the United Kingdom has announced the opening of Chevening South Asia Journalism Programme with the theme 'Good Governance in a Changing World: Media, Politics and Society'. A British High Commission release said, "We are calling out to journalist seeking greater responsibilities and wider participation in global affairs and having a fair understanding of the regional dynamics; this programme offers a life-time opportunity. The Chevening South Asia Journalism programme will enable exceptional mid-career journalists from South Asia (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Maldives), to acquire skills to carry out highly responsible roles within their media organisations and build relationships in the region." The programme offers a fully-funded eight-week fellowship at the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Westminster, London. The programme will commence in the last week of March 2017. Each fellowship includes: .Full programme fees .Living expenses for the duration of the Fellowship .Return economy flight from India to the UK Applications are open from 6 September-16 October 2016. Please apply online on the following website- Chevening is the UK government's international awards scheme aimed at developing global leaders since 1983. It is funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The Chevening India programme is the largest in the world offering up to 65 fully paid scholarships and 65 fully paid fellowships every year. Speaking about the Chevening Programme, the British High Commissioner to India, Sir Dominic Asquith, said: "UK in India hosts the largest Chevening country programme in the world, with a £2.6 million budget to fund about 130 fully funded scholarships for future Indian leaders. Once you are chosen as a Chevening Scholar, you get into a special relationship with the UK. There are over 46,000 Chevening alumni in the world and over 2,300 in India. Apart from the fantastic learning opportunities that you benefit from, while on the Chevening programme at some of the world's best Universities, you also become an integral part of the UK -India relationship. This is one of the best ways for India's next generation to nurture a special relationship between the two countries." Applications are also open currently for the following programmes - 1.
