Tripura teaching job scam: TMC protestors demand CM Sarkar's resignation
Agartala (Tripura) [India], Mar. 31 (ANI): Tripura Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters took out a mock funeral procession on Friday, demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar following a Supreme Court order that led to the dismissal of 10,323 teacher jobs. The protestors burnt the Chief Minister's effigy while alleging that his government is responsible for the dismissal of the appointment of more than 10,000 teachers. They also demanded the publication of a white paper detailing the method for rehabilitation of all those teachers who shall lose their job after December 31, 2017 as per the apex court's verdict that came earlier on Wednesday. "These 10,323 teachers are going to lose their job due to the sin committed by the state government. Today we have organised a protest rally against this. We have demanded the resignation of the state CM Manik Sarkar and burned his effigy. This protest rally is being oganised throughout the state," TMC MLA Asish Saha said. In a major blow to the CPIM led Left Front government in Tripura, the Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld an order of the High Court of Tripura that terminated the job of 10,323 teachers, citing faulty recruitment procedure. Meanwhile, the CPIM has termed the court order as inhuman. The opposition alleged that the state government was repeatedly warned about the faulty recruitment procedure and its consequence but they did not pay heed and instead played with the emotion and future of the youths for political gain. They also demanded a CBI investigation into the issue while announcing to launch statewide protest against what they called was the "biggest ever recruitment scam" in the state. After holding hearings for two consecutive days, a Supreme Court Bench of Justices Adarsh Kumar Goel and Uday Umesh Lalit rejected the Special Leave Petition (SLP) of the Tripura government and upheld the HC order dated May 7, 2014. The High Court of Tripura had cancelled recruitment of all teachers made from March 2010 in undergraduate, graduate and post graduate categories. In the brief order, the SC directed the state to complete transparent recruitment procedure as per guidelines of the National Council for Teacher Education by May 31. The court allowed the 10,323 teachers to continue their job till December 31 and has said that they can apply in the fresh recruitment initiative. Describing the SC order as "victory of truth", the TMC and the BJP said that the order would fight the "menace of corruption and nepotism under the Left Front government". (ANI)
