Agartala (Tripura) [India], May 1 (ANI): The Tripura government has announced immediate restrictions on the sale of motor spirit (MS) and high-speed diesel (HSD) beginning May 1, 2024, due to ongoing disruptions in railway goods transport, impacting fuel supplies in the state.
The Department of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs issued an order detailing the rationing measures to manage the crisis effectively.
Under the new mandate, sales limits for MS and HSD will vary by vehicle type to ensure an equitable distribution during the shortage.
Retail outlets (R/Os) of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) will enforce the daily fuel allocation, like Rs 200 per day for two-wheelers and three-wheelers, Rs 500 per day for four-wheelers.
Similarly, diesel (HSD) sale restrictions has also been allocated like 80 Liters per day for trucks (12-wheelers and above), 60 Liters per day for trucks (10-wheelers), 45 Liters per day for trucks (6-wheelers), 20 Liters per day for trucks, among several others.
For Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs), sale restrictions have been imposed on three-wheelers (3 Liters per day), four-wheelers (15 Liters per day), buses (60 Liters per day) and mini-buses (40 Liters per day).
The government has clarified that these restrictions will not apply to vehicles engaged in governmental duties and emergency services, including health services.
Additionally, the sale of MS and HSD in containers is strictly prohibited except for dozers, tractors, and generators, which must be accompanied by valid registration or proof of ownership documents.
This decision comes as a response to the unexpected interruption in the state's fuel supply chain, primarily due to railway transport issues.
The restrictions are set to remain in place until further notice as authorities work to stabilize the situation and resume normal operations. Residents and businesses are urged to adhere strictly to the rationing order to mitigate any potential impacts of the fuel shortage. (ANI)
