Agartala (Tripura) [India], October 21 (ANI): The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) held a meeting on Monday at the Congress Bhavan in Agartala under the directive of the TPCC President. The meeting was led by Sudip Roy Barman, MLA and a permanent invitee to the All India Congress Committee's Working Committee.
Present at the meeting were TPCC office bearers, district Congress presidents, and leaders from various wings of the state Congress.
The discussion centred on the current state of affairs in Tripura, including the recent incidents of communal and ethnic violence in various parts of the state, such as Gandacherra, Ranibazar, Durganagar, Kaitor Bari, Kurti Kadamtala, Panisagar, and Kailashahar.
The Congress accused the state government of failing to address these issues, alleging that divisive forces are attempting to disrupt the unity and solidarity of the state. They further criticized the Home Department and Chief Minister Manik Saha for their silence, accusing them of supporting these communal elements.
The meeting also addressed rising prices, unemployment, and the BJP government's failure to provide jobs to the educated youth of the state, leading to widespread despair among the youth.
This despair, the Congress stated, is driving many young people towards substance abuse. They also claimed that the state police force has been politicised, preventing them from acting impartially and effectively. As a result, drug trafficking is on the rise, further deteriorating the state's social fabric.
To counter these challenges and promote unity, the Committee decided to organise a 'Solidarity March' in each district of the state.
This campaign will commence on October 31, the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, which is observed nationwide as 'National Solidarity Day.' The march will continue until her birth anniversary on November 19. The proposal for this march was unanimously approved during the meeting. (ANI)
