Trinamool Congress alleges woman molested by central force personnel deployed on election duty

The All India Trinamool Congress has alleged that an instance of molestation occurred when a woman was out for her morning walk on Sunday morning by Central Force personnel deployed for election duty in the Uluberia Parliamentary constituency.

Howrah (West Bengal) [India], May 19 (ANI): The All India Trinamool Congress has brought to the notice of the police observer an alleged instance of molestation of a woman out for her morning walk on Sunday morning by Central Force personnel deployed for election duty in the Uluberia Parliamentary constituency.
In a letter dated May 19 AITC Election agent Md Jawahir Rahi said, "We would like to bring to the notice of the Commission a very unfortunate incident that took place in 178 Uluberia South AC this morning involving the Central Force personnel deployed for election duty. It is alleged that an instance of molestation occurred when a woman was out for her morning walk. The police have already booked the accused jawan, and a formal complaint has been lodged at the Uluberia Police Station."
He further urged the Commission to thoroughly investigate this incident and take the necessary actions to ensure the safety of the women.
"Reports of this incident are spreading rapidly across the district, instilling fear among the residents, particularly concerning the safety of women from the Central Force during the election period. We urge the Commission to thoroughly investigate this incident and take necessary actions to ensure the safety and confidence of the women in our constituency," Md Jawahir Rahi further wrote in the letter.
The letter further said that it is imperative to address this issue promptly to maintain trust and ensure a free and fair election.
Polling for 18 seats in Bengal was conducted across the first four phases, while the remaining 24 seats will go to the polls in the next three phases on May 20, May 25 and June 1. The counting of votes will be held on June 4.
In the fifth phase, polling will be held on May 20 in Bangaon, Barrackpur, Howrah, Uluberia, Srerampur, Hooghly and Arambagh Lok Sabha constituencies. (ANI)
