Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], January 18 (ANI): Following the remarkable success of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in Maharashtra's municipal corporation elections, newly elected corporator Mehzabin Khan expressed confidence in the growing political presence of women in the state's local governance.
Emphasising the expanding role of women in governance, Khan said that today women are becoming corporators and tomorrow they could well become mayors. "Today we are Corporators, tomorrow we might as well become Mayors," she said.
Speaking exclusively to ANI, Khan expressed her gratitude for the support of the people, acknowledging that she has earned their trust to voice their concerns.
"The people have supported me and considered me worth voicing their opinions... Just like Waris Pathan says, today we are Corporators, tomorrow we might as well become Mayors. In these polls, women have shown that they can take care of their families and their locality as well. Our main contest was with the Samajwadi Party and we will ensure they don't return back to Shivaji Nagar. Even if I am pressurised, I will continue working for AIMIM," she said.
Meanwhile, another AIMIM winning candidate, Saif Pathan, said that the people had shown faith in the party's leadership and its long-standing struggles. Speaking to ANI, Pathan said, "It was not too difficult. People trusted the struggles of Asaduddin Owaisi and our other leaders. They have understood they are the ones who can bring them development and work for them..."
Highlighting local issues, Saif Pathan said people were frustrated with privatisation and the lack of civic facilities. "People are now fed up with privatisation and everything, and AIMIM has always been against this... We will stop this privatisation... There are very few facilities in Mumbra, and we will work for this..." he said.
AIMIM national spokesperson Waris Pathan termed the party's success as a result of collective effort and teamwork. "We won at 33 places in Aurangabad, while last time, we only won at 25 spots... This is the result of the collective teamwork. I thank the people..." he told ANI.
The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has recorded its most impressive performance yet in Maharashtra's municipal corporation elections, winning 125 corporator seats and significantly expanding its presence across the state's urban centres.
Party president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi described the results as a clear expression of public confidence in AIMIM's politics and governance-oriented approach.
Addressing the media in Hyderabad, Owaisi thanked voters and party workers for their support. "I sincerely thank the people of Maharashtra for coming out to vote and for blessing our candidates with their trust. This mandate belongs to the people who believed in us and to our workers who worked tirelessly on the ground," he said. (ANI)
