Mandi (Himachal Pradesh), May 19 (ANI): Kangana Ranaut, BJP candidate from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi Lok Sabha constituency, took a dig at the Bollywood industry and called it a "very rare sight" to keep "Sanatani" perspective while working in a "Khan-dominated" industry.
Kangana, while addressing a press conference in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi, highlighted movies like 'Uri: The Surgical Strike' and 'Manikarnika' as she pointed out the "silence" maintained by the actors in the industry over attack on soldiers in Uri while collaborating with Pakistani actors.
Responding to her earlier comment that "people of Bollywood have thinking like Pakistan", the actor-turned-politician said, "When Indian soldiers were killed during URI attack, nobody from Bollywood spoke. Above that, they were collaborating with the artists of Pakistan. Is it the only responsibility of soldiers to sacrifice for the country? That time, only I raised my voice and demanded a ban on Pakistani artists."
"There are very few people who make movies like 'URI: The surgical strike' and 'Manikarnika'. To function in a Khan-dominated industry with 'sanatani' thinking is a very rare sight," she added.
Also, earlier in the day, Kangana, in a conversation with ANI, highlighted issues in her constituency and also her desire to win "MP of the year award" as she delved her achievements as an actor, winning prestigious awards like Padma Shri.
Speaking to ANI, Kangana Ranaut said, "If I become a member of parliament from Mandi, I will keep the issues of Mandi in Parliament. I have won many awards, like national awards and Padma Shri. I will be very happy if I get MP of the year award."
"There are many issues regarding the apples. In some places, there are problems of cold storage, and in some parts, there are issues of import duties In our party, or promises, Modi's guarantees are taken very seriously, I don't see other parties having these strict kinds of protocols that we have," she added further.
On her upcoming projects, she said, "Emergency will be released soon. I was shooting a film with Madhavan, I will resume that. There are also a few other films lined up."
In her maiden bid for membership of the Lower House, she faces a formidable challenge in the form of Congress heavyweight and the son of late former chief minister Virbhadra Singh, Vikramaditya Singh.
The Mandi constituency holds symbolic significance for the Congress, as it is considered a bastion of the Virbhadra family. The seat is currently held by Pratibha Devi Singh, the late leader's widow. She wrested the seat for the Congress in the bye-election that was held following the demise of then-BJP MP Ram Swaroop Sharma.
Polling in Himachal, which is scheduled for June 1, will not only pit candidates vying for Lok Sabha membership from four seats but also elect members for six assembly seats that fell vacant following the resignation and switchover of dissident Congress lawmakers. The BJP, which won all four Lok Sabha constituencies in the state in the 2019 elections, is eyeing an encore this time. (ANI)
