TN Police seize 500 kg of endangered sea cucumber

Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu) [India], July 11 (ANI): The Tamil Nadu Police on Tuesday seized 500 kilograms of endangered sea cucumber from Rameswaram-Pudu road forest area. Acting on a tip off, the police seized the sea cucumber kept in a container here. No arrests have been made so far as the culprits are absconding. The search operation is on to nab the accused. In three separate pre-dawn operations on Sunday, the Marine Police of the Coastal Security Group (CSG) and Mandapam range forest personnel seized 380 kg of endangered sea cucumber, protected under Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act, and arrested three persons. The sea cucumber has been classified as an endangered coral species and their harvest is banned under the Wildlife Protection Act. Further details are awaited. (ANI)
