TN CM urges PM Modi to secure release of 53 fishermen

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], Mar. 3 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palanisamy on Friday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to secure the immediate release of 53 fishermen and 123 fishing boats apprehended by the Sri Lankan Navy.

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], Mar. 3 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palanisamy on Friday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to secure the immediate release of 53 fishermen and 123 fishing boats apprehended by the Sri Lankan Navy. The Sri Lankan Navy yesterday apprehended as many as eight Indian fishermen and one fishing boat in south of Dhanuskodi, Tamil Nadu. An investigation is going on in Talaimannar, Sri Lanka. The Lankan Navy yesterday also captured 13 Indian fishermen along with two boats in the sea area north of Delft Island. The personnel belonged to the Northern Naval Command apprehended the fishermen, the natives of Ramanathapuram and Nagapattinam districts of Tamil Nadu. Karupusami, Muniyasamy, Segar and Nagendran are the residents of Ramanathapuram district while the remaining nine fishermen belong to Nagapattinam district. They have been given into the custody of the Kankesanthurai Police for further investigation. Earlier on February 7, the Sri Lankan Navy had captured 10 Indian fishermen from Tamil Nadu's Rameswaram.
