Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], March 1 (ANI): Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Saturday evening protested against the Students' Federation of India (SFI), the student wing of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), alleging that they attacked West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu.
The TMC accused the SFI of attacking Basu at Jadavpur University earlier today, where he had come to attend an annual meeting of the West Bengal College and University Professors Association (WBCUPA).
TMC leader Saayoni Ghosh condemned the attack and told ANI, "Today the West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu was attacked at the Jadavpur University earlier today. We are here to condemn this."
The visuals of the minister's car show damaged windscreen. Reacting to this, TMC has alleged that SFI members were responsible for the attack and "vandalising" the vehicle.
The TMC workers were seen shouting slogans against the attack.
Basu, also the WBCUPA president, was taken to SSKM hospital as protestors gherao the education minister, preventing him from leaving.
Condemning the incident, West Bengal TMC secretary Kunal Ghosh took to X and accused the protestors of indulging in misconduct with Professor Pradeep Mukherjee at Jadavpur University (JU).
"Those who committed this incivility with Professor Pradeep Mukherjee in Jadavpur and those organisations need to be identified. Appropriate action must be taken against the few incivilities who played tricks with him. Trinamool's courtesy does not mean weakness. Why should they touch him?" Ghosh posted on X.
"Remember the atrocities they committed in Jadavpur. Identify them. The Education Minister and the Trinamool-supporting professors have shown restraint. But those who committed the attacks and chaos need a proper democratic response. Identify them," he added. (ANI)

In an 'X' post, TMC said the government has "ek hi naara, line mein rahe desh bechara," pointing to past governmental measures including demonetisation, the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, the Special Identification Registration (SIR), and now the LPG shortage. The party described demonetisation as a "Tughlaqi farman" that forced ordinary citizens to wait in serpentine queues outside banks and ATMs for days to access their own money. The post also highlighted the 2020 COVID-19 oxygen crisis, when families stood in long lines outside hospitals and suppliers as the public health system collapsed.
