Kolkata [West Bengal) [India], November 4 (ANI): TMC leader Kunal Ghosh on Monday defended Bengal's capital, the city of Joy, against West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose's remarks that "women in the state are subjected to atrocities."
Ghosh said, "The governor knows that Kolkata is the safest city in the country for women. The central report also reflects the same thing." He described recent incidents as social crimes occurring nationwide, adding, "Such things are happening in all states, but here the police are taking action." Ghosh criticized the governor, saying, "The governor is behaving like a BJP spokesperson. Women have made allegations against him; he has kept himself out of the investigation by misusing his constitutional position and is doing drama."
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, Governor CV Ananda Bose expressed his disappointment over the law and order situation in the state and the increasing crimes against women. He stated, "It is a sad fact of contemporary Bengal that atrocities are heaped upon women. This is something that the entire society has to resist forcefully and effectively, and we will do it." His reaction comes amid the ongoing demand for justice for the RG Kar rape and murder case victim. Governor Bose made this statement after attending a celebration for Jay Jawan Day with veterans.
Additionally, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari met the parents of the victims in the RG Kar rape and murder case and extended his support to the family. The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in West Bengal stated, "The whole of the BJP and I stand with this family. Our minister of state visited them twice. I also met them during Durga Puja. Our fight for justice is ongoing. We will continue this fight. The family demands justice, to punish the culprits and those who destroyed the evidence. They also want legal action against the state government, which is equally responsible."
Earlier, junior doctors had called for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take strict action and ensure capital punishment for those responsible. Senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh also lashed out at the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Saturday, accusing the party of fostering an atmosphere of fear and tension in the lead-up to the Medinipur by-elections. "TMC conducts by-elections here. They decide who has to get the vote. They create an atmosphere of fear and create tension right before the elections," he said.(ANI)
