"Time for our PM to come forward and tell nation the facts": MP Rajeev Rai on US President's "trade deal" remarks

Trump once again claimed credit for stopping a "war" between India and Pakistan, while praising both Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir for their roles in de-escalating tensions in May.

New Delhi [India], June 19 (ANI): Samajwadi Party MP Rajeev Rai, on Thursday, refuted US President Donald Trump's remarks of bringing a "trade deal" to bring a ceasefire between India and Pakistan and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to come forward and tell the truth.
Speaking to ANI, Rai said, "Trump once again has spoken what he wants to speak. I was expecting from our Prime Minister that during his 35-minute conversation with Trump, he would have asked the US President why the hell he is inviting the leader of terrorism, Asim Munir, for a biryani at the White House."
"This is the time for our Prime Minister to come forward and tell the nation the facts, since Trump is repeating the same things. Still, I will believe our prime minister rather than believing the US president, but the nation wants to hear from him," Rajeev Rai said.
Rajeev Rai, who was also a part of the all-party delegation that visited different countries to spread India's zero tolerance against terrorism, said that he also told the officials during his visit that the real power in Pakistan is with the Army.
"They have a puppet government there, and Mr Trump proved me right by inviting Munir, not the Prime Minister of Pakistan," he said.
Further, Rai called on PM Modi to clear the facts and tell the people that the US President is lying.
"We should be clear and should now allow Mr Trump to speak whatever he is saying. Certainly, this creates doubt in people's minds. My Prime Minister should clear the facts and tell the people that what the US President is saying is not true. Trump is a businessman, and he keeps on speaking like that. How can he compare Munir and our Prime Minister? Munir is not the prime minister. This is not in good taste," the SP MP said.
Earlier, Trump once again claimed credit for stopping a "war" between India and Pakistan, while praising both Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir for their roles in de-escalating tensions in May.
"Prime Minister Modi just left a little while ago, and we are working on a trade deal with India and also with Pakistan... I am so happy. Two very smart people decided not to keep going with the war. Those are two big nuclear powers. I was honoured to meet him today," said Trump.
However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told Trump late on Tuesday that the ceasefire was achieved through talks between the Indian and Pakistani militaries and not US mediation, India's foreign secretary Vikram Misri said earlier on Wednesday. (ANI)
