Tibetan PM in-exile inaugurates 'Young Tibetan Research Scholars Conference'
Dharamsala (Himachal Pradesh) [India], Oct. 18 (ANI): The Tibet Policy Institute on Tuesday organised the second 'Young Tibetan Research Scholars Conference' at College of Higher Tibetan Studies at Sarah near here, which was attended by the Tibetan PM in-exile Lobsang Sangay as the Chief Guest. Former additional secretary, the Union Cabinet Secretariat, Jayadeva Ranade, a member of the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB), and president of the recently-established 'Centre for China Analysis and Strategy', marked his presence as the guest of honour. The three-day conference will conclude on October 20, 2016. The three-day conference, which is attended by more than 60 participants from more than six cities to hold discussion on the broad theme of 'Tibet and Tibetans-in-Exile: Prospects and Challenges'. Speaking to ANI Sangay said, "We are here to inaugurate the second young Tibetan scholars' conference, where scholars from all over India have come. We are also trying to get scholars doing PhD and MPhil and also lecturers and professors from abroad to come here and meet for couple of days and share research on various aspects of Tibet and China so that we can have policies based on substantive and comprehensive research. The idea is to reach out to the think tanks around the world and within the Tibetan community, and also to have scholars and researchers, who can travel around the world and speak about Tibet. So in that sense, this forum is very important for young scholars." Ranade said, "I think it is a very timely event and for the next two days, they will discuss essentially the prospects and challenges that Tibetans are facing. So, I think, it will feed into the work of the Tibetan policy institute and help them shape policies for the future of their own community." (ANI)
