Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], February 22 (ANI): Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam on Saturday said that the security of certain party leaders who defected from the undivided Sena has been reduced since those who could pose a threat are themselves in "ruins".
He said that the government had ensured the security of a large number of Shiv Sena leaders, including Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who had left Uddhav Thackeray's leadership.
"2.5 years ago when Eknath Shinde had left the party and a large number of Shiv Sena leaders had left the party and joined us, there was a possibility of threat to their security, in view of which the government had made security arrangements for them. 2.5 years later, those who could have posed a threat are themselves in ruins... In such a situation, security has definitely been reduced in respect of a lot of people," Nirupam told ANI.
Speaking on the allocations of funds to different departments in the state government, Nirupam said, "The funds that will be allocated to the departments (in the state) will be passed in the budget session, which will commence from March 3."
This comes after Shinde on Friday responded to a recent death threat, stating that such threats were not new to him. He recalled how he had faced numerous threats, especially when the dance bar was shut down.
"Threats have come before too. There were many threats when the dance bar was closed. There were threats to kill me, and attempts were made, but I was not afraid. The Naxalites had threatened me, but I did not give in to their threats... I did the work of starting the first industrial project in Gadchiroli," he said.
Shinde on Thursday received a death threat in a mail, from an unknown individual. The unidentified individual has threatened to detonate a bomb in his car.
Similar threat emails were also received at Mantralaya and JJ Marg Police Station. Police are investigating and searching for the sender of the threat mail.
Shinde, while speaking to the media, warned, "Do not take me lightly; I have already said this to those who have taken me lightly. I am a normal party worker, but I am a worker of Balasaheb, and everyone should take me with this understanding." (ANI)
