New Delhi [India], February 6 (ANI): After Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) initiated action against employees adhering to non-Hindu religious practices while working in the institution, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said on Wednesday that such actions send a very wrong message and called on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to reconsider his position.
The Hyderabad MP also questioned the basis on which Naidu's Telugu Desam Party is supporting the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, in the wake of this decision.
"When the employees of TTD are being removed just because they are non-Hindu, then on what basis is N Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supporting the Waqf Amendment Bill, in which it is being said that in the state Muslim waqf boards, a minimum of two non-Muslims can also be members? This is sending a very wrong message and he should reconsider his position. How can any non-Muslim be made a part of the Waqf board as per the Waqf Amendment Bill? The Waqf board is very sacrosanct for Muslims. This is completely wrong," Owaisi said while speaking to ANI.
Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh said there is no second thought about it as it is the stance of the State government. "That is the stand of our government. There is no second thought about it... We spoke about it before the elections, and we stand by it," said Lokesh during a media briefing in the national capital.
According to a statement from TTD, the action was taken under the direction of TTD Chairman BR Naidu. "Following the directions of TTD Chairman BR Naidu, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has initiated action against employees adhering to non-Hindu religious practices while working in the institution," the statement read.
"Authorities have identified 18 employees who, despite being employed by TTD, are following non-Hindu religious traditions. Orders have been issued for disciplinary action against 18 identified employees who are participating in non-Hindu religious activities while also taking part in TTD festivals and rituals," added the statement.
Apart from that, as part of the decision to preserve the spiritual integrity of TTD's operations, the Board has proposed transfers to other government departments or voluntary retirement for these employees. (ANI)
