Bijapur (Karnataka) [India], April 26 (ANI): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday took a veiled swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that this election is different from previous ones as a party and an individual are trying to abolish India's constitution and democracy for the first time in history.
"This election is not an ordinary election, it's not like the previous elections because, for the first time in the history of India, a party and an individual are trying to abolish the constitution and democracy of India," he said this at a rally in Bijapur.
Rahul Gandhi also claimed that on one hand, Narendra Modi is trying to abolish the constitution, their MPs have clearly said that if they win the election, they will change and abolish the constitution. On the other hand, there is the Congress party and the India alliance who are trying to save the constitution.
Rahul Gandhi accused PM Narendra Modi of attempting to abolish the Constitution, while the Congress party and INDIA alliance are working towards protecting it.
He also stated that some of the BJP MPs have said that if they win the election, they will change and abolish the constitution
"The constitution has given rights, voice, and reservation to the people of India. Before the constitution, kings and emperors ruled India. If today the poor, the backward, the Dalits, and the tribals of India have rights, have a voice, then the constitution has given these rights and voice. On one hand, Narendra Modi is trying to abolish the constitution, their MPs have clearly said that if they win the election, they will change and abolish the constitution. On the other hand, there is the Congress party and the India alliance who are trying to save the constitution," he said.
The Congress leader also accused the Prime Minister of depriving the poor people and instead giving India's wealth to a select few.
"Narendra Modi has made 20-25 people billionaires in the last 10 years, he has given all of India's wealth to these individuals. All the benefits Narendra Modi has given to people like Adani. India's airports, India's ports, India's infrastructure, the defence industry, the solar power industry, the wind power industry, all of it Narendra Modi has handed over to Adani and people like Adani, and the poor have received nothing," he said.
Karnataka is voting on 14 seats today in the second phase of Lok Sabha elections.
The second phase has 88 Lok Sabha constituencies across 13 states and union territories, including 13 in Rajasthan, 20 in Kerala, eight in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, five each in Assam and Bihar, six in Madhya Pradesh, three each in Chhattisgarh and West Bengal, and one each in Tripura, Manipur, and Jammu & Kashmir.
34.8 lakh first-time voters are registered to cast their votes. Additionally, there are 3.28 crore young voters in the age group of 20-29 years. 1202 candidates (males: 1098; females: 102; third gender: 02) are in the fray. (ANI)
