Mainpuri (Uttar Pradesh) [India], November 23 (ANI): Samajwadi Party (SP) Chief Akhilesh Yadav fired salvos at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging that the latter is trying to divert the attention of the public from basic issues like inflation and unemployment.
"The underlying issues are inflation and unemployment. The BJP is just trying to divert the attention of the public from these basic issues. They do not want to discuss these. What they are discussing is how to create division in society", said the SP Chief while speaking to reporters.
He also addressed a public gathering in Mainpuri and appealed to the people to vote for SP candidate Dimple Yadav for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri is the "traditional" seat for the Samajwadi Party. Former Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh represented the constituency, which was taken up by his daughter-in-law and SP leader, Dimple Yadav, after the former's demise.
Mulayam Singh Yadav was first elected from Mainpuri in 1996.
Meanwhile, slamming the BJP over the state assembly elections in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav said, "I am confident that the BJP will lose all three states. The public knows about their strategy to create division in society. Wherever the SP has held campaigns, the vote percentage will increase".
The end of 2023 is proving to be an action-packed year given the state assembly polls being conducted in five states: Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhatisgarh, Telangana, and Mizoram.
The state assembly polls will set the "semi-final" stage for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls in 2024. (ANI)
