Murshidabad (West Bengal) [India], April 19 (ANI): Launching scathing attacks on the West Bengal government over Murshidabad violence, BJP MLA Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury on Saturday accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of failing to maintain law and order in the state, alleging that "pro-terror groups" have exploited young boys to instil fear and disrupt communal harmony.
Speaking to ANI, Chaudhury further alleged that the state police have turned a blind eye, and that the Mamata Banerjee government is sheltering elements fuelling terror and disharmony in the region.
"She (West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee) has not come here. She is the Home Minister of the state and has completely failed. It is not the BJP; the people are demanding a BSF camp. Their only demand is that they want a BSF permanent camp and CBI. They don't believe in law and order. Children are afraid to go to school. There are some terror groups which are sheltered by this Mamata Banerjee's government," the BJP MLA said.
"The police have turned a blind eye and have used the opportunity to assault people. They have assaulted women. They threatened that they have blades and said, 'Say Allahu Akbar then only then only you can be safe.' These kinds of words I have not heard in the past," Chaudhury said.
Sreerupa Mitra also emphasised that in the 12 years, she has not seen this kind of Hindu-Muslim disharmony in the region.
"People work here. They celebrate Durga Puja and Eid. After Mothabari, we have seen the exact same module working here within a few days. We want to know who is behind this. These are not local Muslim brothers who have done this. Pro-terror groups have used local innocent Muslim young boys aged 12 to 14 years. They have done this only to demonstrate terror so that they get funding. This is a business of terror and fear. We are not going to allow this in our country," she said.
This came after violence that erupted on April 11 during protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, which resulted in the deaths of three people, injuries to several others, and widespread property damage. Several families have been displaced, with many migrating to Jharkhand's Pakur district, while others have taken refuge in relief camps set up in Malda. (ANI)
