New Delhi [India], January 15 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sandeep Pathak on Wednesday expressed confidence saying that there is a very good atmosphere in favour of AAP in the whole of Delhi.
Pathak also stepped up his attacks on its primary opponent BJP stating that the public is fully aware that if they come to power, they will stop all good works being done here.
"... The question is not only about this seat but there is a very good atmosphere in favour of AAP in the whole of Delhi... the public is fully aware that if BJP comes, all the good work being done here will be stopped..." Pathak told ANI.
Meanwhile, AAP Chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal filed his nomination from the New Delhi seat for the Delhi Assembly Polls, scheduled on February 5.
After filing his nomination, Kejriwal asserted that a lot of work still left to be done in the national capital.
"I have filed the nomination. I would like to tell the people of Delhi that please vote for work, on one side there is a party that works and on the other side, there is a party that abuses... So vote for work, education, health, electricity, water, roads, vote for these things. A lot of work has been done. There is still a lot of work left to be done, so I hope that people will vote for hard work. They (BJP) have neither a CM nor vision and narrative," he said.
As the poll date nears, the poll battle has been intensified between the three parties - AAP, BJP and Congress.
Notably, INDIA bloc allies Congress and AAP have been contesting elections separately.
In a significant development, after the Samajwadi Party, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) extended its support to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the upcoming Delhi elections.
TMC General Secretary and MP, Abhishek Banerjee, on Wednesday, said, "Why should we help the BJP by not supporting AAP?"
Speaking to ANI, Abhishek Banerjee said, "When the INDIA alliance was formed, we decided that wherever the regional parties are strong, let them take the fight against BJP. For example DMK in Tamil Nadu, JMM in Jharkhand. So in Delhi, who do you think can beat the BJP? It's AAP. So why shall I not support the party that can defeat the BJP? Ultimately that's the cause. Why shall we help the BJP by not supporting AAP?..."
Earlier today, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav extended support to AAP, saying it is stronger than the Congress in Delhi, and his party has decided to stand with AAP.
Yadav said, "The regional party fighting against the BJP should be supported by the leaders of the INDIA alliance. AAP and Congress are fighting against each other in Delhi. AAP is strong and we have decided to stand with them. The question is about Delhi and our goal is that the BJP gets defeated. Congress and AAP have the same goal too."
On Tuesday, NCP-SP chief Sharad Pawar suggested that his party should assist Kejriwal in the electoral race, signalling potential political collaboration between the two leaders.
"In Delhi assembly elections, my feeling is that we should help Arvind Kejriwal," said Sharad Pawar.
The Delhi assembly polls will be held in a single phase on February 5 and the counting of votes will take place on February 8.
The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has already announced its candidates for all 70 assembly seats. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its candidates for 59 seats.
The last date for filing nominations is January 17. The date for scrutiny of nominations is January 18. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 20.
The Congress, which was in power for 15 consecutive years in Delhi, has suffered setbacks in the last two assembly elections and has failed to win any seat. In contrast, the AAP dominated the 2020 assembly elections by winning 62 out of 70 seats while the BJP got only eight seats. (ANI)
