Congress leader and MP Shashi Tharoor

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], Mar 19 (ANI): Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday denied having violated the Model Code of Conduct. “The posters featuring Malayalam and English editions of my books including ‘Why I am a Hindu’ have not been put up by me,” he said.
Reacting BJP’s allegations, Thiruvananthapuram MP said: “These are not my posters. Basically, I think those posters have been put by the supporters in the DDC in order to get some wall space before all the space went to the others because the Congress’ list hasn’t come out yet and officially we didn’t have a candidate whereas the CPI is plastering the city with posters.”
On Tuesday, a complaint was filed by the BJP with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) against Tharoor for violating the Model Code of Conduct.
Tharoor, however, said: “These are not the issues on which anybody should be wasting their time because we all know which party attempts to appeal to voters on communal lines and I am not from that party.”
“Of the books I published, ‘Why I am a Hindu’ was published one and a half years ago. The connection between that and the complaint is almost hilarious,” he said, adding that these posters reflect his life as a writer and a thinker.
“We believe in an inclusive India and we are campaigning for an inclusive Thiruvananthapuram. We will never campaign on the basis of communalism,” he said. (ANI)
