Telangana has turned into 'stone in madman's hand': BRS' KTR slams Congress govt

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], January 23 (ANI): Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao on Friday accused the Congress government here of indulging in "drama politics" as he prepared to appear before the SIT in connection with the phone tapping case.
Addressing a press conference, Rao said he had worked for the state with dedication for the last 15 years and had faithfully discharged every responsibility entrusted to him. "We never believed in time-pass politics. We never dragged the families or children of our opponents into political battles, nor did we harass them by filing false cases," he said.
Praising former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, KTR claimed that KCR had fulfilled even those promises that were not part of the election manifesto. He highlighted several welfare schemes under their government, such as Rythu Bandhu, Kalyana Lakshmi, and the KCR Kit.
Taking aim at the present state government, Rao said, "It feels as if Telangana has turned into a stone in the hands of a madman", alleging that the government lacked the capability to fulfil its promises to people and was more interested in wasting time.
"Just to somehow pass the time and mislead the public, they are staging a new drama every day," Rao accused.
He alleged that the government was creating a series of "dramas", citing what he termed the Kaleshwaram drama, the Sheep Scam drama, the Formula E drama, and the phone tapping drama.
He maintained his stance and said he had never been involved in illegal or unjust activities. "I say this with my conscience as witness," he asserted.
KTR also claimed that for the past seven to eight years, he had been healing with "severe character assassination" against him.
"They tried to falsely link me to drug cases and alleged relationships with heroines. Not just me, my family and my children were also subjected to mental harassment," he alleged.
Referring to the summons issued to him in connection with the phone tapping case, he said he would cooperate with the inquiry and appear before the authorities.
"I will go and question them. They must answer what mistake our government actually made and where things truly went wrong," he said.
Earlier, while speaking to ANI, Rao targeted the Telangana CM Revanth Reddy and accused him of being behind the constant attacks on his character.
He maintained his stance that the SIT notice would not deter or scare them, as they are not in the wrong, and slyly remarked that it is free publicity for them.
"He thinks we will be scared by a police summons. We have no problem appearing before the police, as we have not done anything wrong, and this also gives us free publicity," he said.
Rao claimed that the CM had been running a slander campaign against him for two whole years. "Give me evidence if I have done anything," he said, further questioning the grounds of the summons.
Taking direct aim at Reddy, he said that he is the victim of character assassination and "If anyone is responsible for this, it is the CM."
Rao on Thursday also alleged that the ongoing phone-tapping investigation in Telangana is politically motivated, targeting opposition leaders while diverting attention from governance failures.
Addressing the media in Sircilla, KTR described the SIT probe as a "time-pass exercise", claiming notices were issued selectively to BRS leaders while senior police and intelligence officials were not being questioned.
"If the investigation is genuine, senior officials should be questioned first. Instead, political leaders are being targeted," he said, calling the case baseless. (ANI)
