Tamil Nadu: Govt. doctors' strike over PG admissions continues
Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) [India], May 6 (ANI): The government doctors in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore on Saturday entered the 17th day of their strike through which they are demanding 50 percent reservations for them in admission to post-graduate medical courses in the state. The doctors have said they were attending to emergency procedures when required. The strike, however, has been severely affecting outpatient services in hospitals and primary health service centres. The issue came to light, after a single judge bench of the Madras High Court on April 17 ruled that incentive marks to in-service candidates in PG admissions would have to be based on the Medical Council of India (MCI) regulation and not as per the State Government prospectus. The MCI regulations state that 50 percent of the medical seats should be allocated to all-India quota, while the rest can be retained by the state. 25 percent of seats are reserved for the in-service candidates.
