Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) [India], April 19 (ANI): Tamil Nadu BJP president and party's Coimbatore candidate K Annamalai alleged "political interference" after names of several voters were allegedly found missing from the voter list in the state on Friday.
The BJP chief demanded re-polling in the places where a large number of voters raised name missing complaints.
"We saw complaints from a large number of voters on their names being missing from the voters' list. This happened in many places," Annamalai said.
"We are demanding re-poll in places where the names of a large number of voters were missing. We have a doubt that there was some political interference because the names of a large number of BJP caders were missing from the voter list," he added.
He also criticised the Election Commission for not providing basic facilities at selected polling stations.
"The Election Commission had not shown much interest in the transportation of senior citizens. In palladam we can see polling stations without basic facilities," the BJP chief said.
As the 39 seats went to the polls in the first phase in Tamil Nadu, several voters across Chennai were left in shock as they could not exercise their franchise as their names were missing from the voter list this time.
The average voter turnout in 39 constituencies of Tamil Nadu stood at 39.51 per cent till 1 pm as per the data released by the Election Commission of India.
The south Parliament constituency of Chennai recorded a voter turnout of 28.92 per cent till 1 pm whereas the Chennai north constituency witnessed 29.05 and the voter turnout in central Parliament constituency was recorded 28.08 per cent. (ANI)
