Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], December 19 (ANI): Congress on Thursday accused the BJP workers of vandalising the party office in Mumbai and said in a "systematic conspiracy", BJP workers ransacked the office in Mumbai.
Earlier today, BJP workers held a protest against the Congress party, alleging that the Congress has insulted Baba Saheb Ambedkar.
Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge slammed the incident and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah duo have "resorted to unleash political violence and intimidation."
"Today, the BJP unleashed a pre-planned conspiracy to shield Amit Shah's reprehensible statement against Babasaheb Dr Ambedkar ji. Fresh facts have come to light that the BJP MPs also attacked our women MP's while we were holding a peaceful protest at Makar Dwar. Secondly, in a systematic conspiracy, BJP workers ransacked the offices of @INCMumbai and @INCWestBengal in Mumbai and Kolkata respectively, which was later foiled by our committed Congress workers. In their utter frustration, after being exposed first on their agenda to change Constitution and then on their Anti-Babasaheb mindset, Modi-Shah duo have resorted to unleash political violence and intimidation. The fact that BJP MPs were sent carrying sticks with placards in the Parliament to obstruct INDIA's peaceful protest was nothing but a carefully choreographed conspiracy to deflect attention. Every Indian who believes in social justice and an egalitarian society will unitedly fight against BJP's oppressive tyranny and Manuvadi mindset!" Kharge posted on X.
Congress MP and Mumbai Regional Congress Committee President Varsha Gaikwad alleged that in the incident party workers were injured.
"Maharashtra is a lawful state. What is the Home Minister doing? All of this started after we raised questions against Adani when the Parliament started... We carried out a peaceful march from Babasaheb Ambedkar's statue. All of us were going in a single line... We wanted to enter the Parliament but the BJP members started pushing us. We have all of that on video... The Mumbai office got attacked in the evening. Our workers are injured... Is there no Constitution?... We will not be scared. We will fight and get justice," Gaikwad said.
Maharashtra assembly LoP and Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar said that they will not tolerate this behaviour.
"The Congress office (in Mumbai) has been attacked... This is to divert the attention from the issue of HM Amit Shah insulting Babasaheb Ambedkar... There should be immediate action... In whose direction did this happen?... We will not tolerate this behaviour... The police are always present there. Did they not have the information that this was going to happen?... Action should also be taken against the police if they do not take action," Wadettiwar said.
NCP-SCP leader Rohit Pawar said that it is wrong to vandalise the office of the other parties.
"They vandalised the office today, they will vandalise someone's home tomorrow... The people in power will think that they can go to anyone's home and loot things. If this starts happening then what would be the difference between Maharashtra and Bihar?... We have faith in the Home Minister and the police that they will take appropriate action. If action is not taken within two days then common people and party workers will register protest," Rohit Pawar said.
Maharashtra SP President Abu Azm said "Such hooliganism is not right. There should be a verbal discussion. This is a sign of 'Jungle Raj'."
Maharashtra NCP (SCP) leader Jayant Patil said, "Vandalised others' office is wrong... They may have done this to divert attention."
NCP-SCP MLA, Jitendra Awhad said that the incident is an eye-opener for the people.
"When someone gets victory, they should make sure that it does not turn into poison... This incident is an eye-opener for the people... No action will be taken against them," Awhad said.
Earlier today, police officials inspected the Mumbai Congress office which was vandalized by BJP workers.
Mumbai DCP Zone 1, Dr Pravin Mundhe said that the detained people have been sent for medical examination
"Today some workers of BJP Yuva Morcha came to the Congress party office. We have brought some workers to the police station. Further action will be taken on the basis of the written complaint. The people detained have been sent for medical examination," DCP Mundhe said. (ANI)
