Supreme Court dismisses Congress MLA's plea against Kerala CM and Cochin Minerals

New Delhi [India], October 6 (ANI): The Supreme Court of India dismissed a special leave petition (SLP) filed by Dr. Matthew A. Kuzhalnadan, Congress MLA from Muvattupuzha, against Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, his daughter, and Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd. (CMRL) on Monday.
Earlier, Dr Kuzhalnadan had approached the top court challenging the Kerala High Court's order, which upheld the dismissal of his criminal complaint, under Section 13(1)(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Sections 120B and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
According to his complaint, he claimed that CMRL made payments to the Chief Minister's daughter and her company as a quid pro quo for favourable treatment from the state government.
However, both the trial court and the Kerala High Court rejected his allegations, holding that the materials placed on record did not establish the alleged offences.
Later, when the matter reached the Chief Justice of India, the court refused to interfere with the High Court's order.
During its judgment, the CJI observed that political battles should be fought before the people and during elections, rather than in the courts, and cautioned against using judicial forums to settle political scores. He further remarked that the Kerala floods were a tragedy and should not be exploited for political mileage.
Hence, the Supreme Court chose not to entertain the petition and dismissed the Special Leave Petition (SLP). During the proceedings, the petitioner was represented by Senior Advocate S. Gurukrishna Kumar. Respondent No. 2, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), was represented by Senior Advocates Kapil Sibal and Siddhartha Dave, along with Advocates-on-Record Arshdeep S. Khurana, Sulakshan V.S., and Manohar Pratap.
Meanwhile, in another incident, a lawyer entered Court Room 1 of the Supreme Court of India and attempted to throw an object at the Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai with the alleged intent to attack him. As per sources, the attacker, while being escorted out by the security personnel, said "Sanatan ka apman nahi sahega Hindustan".
However, the security personnel present at the scene intervened immediately and escorted him out. (ANI)
