Stop politics against atrocities on Dalits: Mayawati
New Delhi, July 21 (ANI): Slamming the CID probe ordered into the Una incident, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati on Thursday demanded that this case should be heard in a fast-track court while asserting that the leaders of various political parties should not play politics against atrocities on Dalits. "A CID probe is not enough, Rajnath ji knows this too. The poor continue to suffer and they don't get any justice. What we really need is fast track courts with a sitting High Court judge," Mayawai said in the Rajya Sabha during a discussion on the sensitive issue of recent atrocities against Dalits in Gujarat's Una town. "This case should be heard in a fast track court and we also demand that one of the judges hearing this matter should be a Dalit," she added. Mayawati also used the occasion to take potshots at both the ruling BJP and Congress for politicizing the atrocities against Dalits. "Even after the Constitution was laid down by Baba Sahab Ambedkar, Dalits still have not received their full rights. When the BJP came to power with full majority in 2014, we hoped that they would address the Dalit issue," Mayawati said. "When the BJP is in power, they politicize the atrocities on Dalits. And the Congress did the same when it was in power. This should stop," she added. Asserting that the atrocities on Dalits continue to take place in the country, the BSP supremo expressed her concern over the fact that they do not get justice. "In the name of cow protection, the Muslims have been attacked. Now, even the Dalits are not being spared, especially in the BJP-ruled states. Forget about the Dalits getting justice, even their FIR is not filed many times and the latest example is Una (Gujarat) incident," she added. The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister, however, welcomed the BJP's decision to expel Dayashankar Singh, the party's Uttar Pradesh unit vice-president, for his derogatory slur on her. "The people have supported me across the nation. It is good that the BJP took action against Dayashankar Singh. But it would have been better had the BJP filed an FIR against him to send a strong message across the country," she added. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh yesterday said that nine people have been arrested and four police officials suspended in connection with the attacks on Dalits in Una, Gujarat. "Atrocity against Dalits is a social evil. We must take it up as a challenge. I urge all parties to come together to fight this," Singh said while making a statement on the Una attack in the Lok Sabha. Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel has ordered a CID probe into the alleged assault on Dalit community members for allegedly killing a cow in Una and also announced to set up a special court for "speedy" trial of the case.
