New Delhi [India], November 13 (ANI): After Delhi woke up to a thick layer of smog on Monday morning, a day after firecrackers were burnt indiscriminately on Diwali, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the national capital and the opposition BJP hit out and blamed each other.
Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai accused the BJP-led governments in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana of allowing the burning of firecrackers on Diwali despite the ban.
He also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of persuading people to burst crackers on Diwali despite the ban by the Supreme Court.
"The only reason why the level of pollution has increased today is because of the burning of firecrackers. Even after the order of the Supreme Court, the BJP does not want to fulfil its responsibility. It is unfortunate. BJP wanted firecrackers to be burnt and the police are with BJP in all three states (Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh)," the Delhi Environment Minister said on Monday.
After that, BJP's National spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla took to X and called the AAP, Congress and other parties of the INDIA bloc 'anti-Hindus'.
"In the end, the same thing happened which was expected. Arvind Kejriwal, Aam Adami Party, Congress, Trinamool Congress, and INDI alliance which have only agenda to target Hindus have once again come against the Hindus the pollution level increasing because of Diwali. How come the level of pollution increased after a festival was celebrated by Hindus only for one day? How there was pollution before 15 days," Poonawalla said in a video posted on his X account.
He further slammed the AAP government and said that the Air Quality Index is deepening because of the 'failure' of the ruling party.
"Till 2018, the AAP used to say that the main reason for the pollution is stubble burning in Punjab. It also promised to curb the pollution. Even after the SC order for two times, there are incidents of stubble burning. The AAP did nothing to curb the pollution," he said.
In a post, Poonawalla said, "Gopal Rai says some areas were TARGETTED by bursting crackers! Sir who was TARGETTING 10 days ago when AQI was above 600-700? This statement comes even as Parali burning crosses 900 yesterday in Punjab despite SC warnings. Over all there have been above 23000 incidents of Parali burning in Punjab," he said.
Citing internal causes of pollution in Delhi, the BJP leader questioned Gopal Rai to list the things done by his department in the last nine years as a solution for the pollution.
"Then there are also internal causes of pollution in Delhi- 1) Dust, 2) Industrial & construction, 3) vehicular pollution, 4) biomass burning 2) Industrial & construction, 3) vehicular pollution and 4) biomass burning. What did you do about this in last 9 years Gopal Rai?," he further said.
"Stop abusing Hindus for your faults," he added. (ANI)
