"Steps being taken towards Bhrashtachaar Mukt Bharat": Union Minister Meenakashi Lekhi after ED arrests AAP's Sanjay Singh

Stressing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government is against corruption, Union Minister Meenakashi Lekhi on Wednesday said that the arrest of AAP leader Sanjay Singh in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case is part of the steps being taken towards building a 'Bhrashtachaar Mukt Bharat' (corruption-free India).

New Delhi [India], October 4 (ANI): Stressing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government is against corruption, Union Minister Meenakashi Lekhi on Wednesday said that the arrest of AAP leader Sanjay Singh in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case is part of the steps being taken towards building a 'Bhrashtachaar Mukt Bharat' (corruption-free India).
While saying that the opposition leaders have come to power for the welfare of their own families, the Union Minister said that it is PM Modi-led government that has decided upon 'Naa Khaunga, Na Khane Dunga' (neither take bribe nor let others take bribe).
The Enforcement Directorate, hours after searching the residence of Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, arrested him in connection with the alleged liquor policy scam case.
Responding to it, Lekhi said, "Opposition has come to the power with the intention for the welfare of their own family. It is the Modi government that has decided upon 'Naa Khaunga, Na Khane Dunga' and these steps are being taken towards building a corruption-free India."
"The probe agencies of the country have been formed in accordance with the law of the land so that corruption doesn't happen in the country. We did not tell them to be corrupt. If they have indulged in corruption, investigation will be done and action will be taken," Lekhi said while speaking to reporters here.
Sanjay Singh, MP, was taken into custody after a day-long interrogation by ED officials at his Delhi residence. He was later brought to the ED office.
Singh's party colleague and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was also arrested in the liquor policy scam case and is in jail.
Sisodia was arrested by the CBI on February 26 for his alleged role in the scam.
The central probe agency on Wednesday morning raided the residence of Sanjay Singh in connection with the now-cancelled liquor excise policy in Delhi. The development followed ED's raid on the premises of Sanjay Singh's close aides.
The Delhi excise policy case pertains to allegations that the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government's excise policy for 2021-22 allowed cartelisation and favoured certain dealers who had allegedly paid bribes for it, a charge that has been strongly refuted by the AAP.
ED has so far filed five chargesheets in the case, including against Sisodia. (ANI)
