"Step-motherly treatment towards Telangana": State IT Minister Duddilla after Centre allocates semiconductor project to AP

Sridhar Babu Duddilla alleged that it was a blatant step-motherly treatment towards Telangana, when the state has done everything, from allotment of 10 acres of prime land at Maheshwaram to all subsidies being approved and every clearance completed in record time.

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], August 13 (ANI): Telangana Minister of Information Technology, Electronics and Communication, Industry & Commerce Sridhar Babu Duddilla slammed the Centre in the wake of the Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approving four new semiconductor manufacturing projects worth Rs 4,600 crore in Odisha, Punjab, and Andhra Pradesh.
Sridhar Babu Duddilla alleged that it was a blatant step-motherly treatment towards Telangana, when the state has done everything, from allotment of 10 acres of prime land at Maheshwaram to all subsidies being approved and every clearance completed in record time.
In a post on X, Duddilla shared, "The Telangana Government has done everything a proactive State should do, from allotment of 10 acres of prime land at Maheshwaram to all subsidies being approved and every clearance completed in record time, in order to host a world-class advanced system and packaging facility. The company is investment-ready and has been waiting only for the India Semiconductor Mission approval. Yet, in a baffling display of bias, the Union Cabinet has greenlit a similar project in Andhra Pradesh, where not even a single acre of land has been allotted."
He further said that the contrast is stark and Telangana's proposal is backed by ready-to-use land, approved subsidies, investor commitments and a clear implementation roadmap.
"Whereas no land has been allotted, and groundwork remains incomplete in Andhra Pradesh. This is not an administrative lapse. It is blatant step-motherly treatment towards Telangana. A State with ready infrastructure, investor commitment and a clear execution plan has been sidelined in favour of an unprepared proposal existing only on paper," he said.
"This selective approach defies logic, undermines fairness and sends a damaging signal to global investors about the Centre's priorities. Such politically motivated decisions are only an insult towards Telangana's preparedness. We will not accept being denied our rightful place in the national semiconductor growth story," the Telangana Minister added.
The announcement has drawn widespread praise from Union Ministers, state leaders, and industry representatives who took to X to express their support.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the social media platform X wrote, "Bharat is gaining Atmanirbharta in semiconductor manufacturing. Congratulations to our sisters and brothers in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Punjab on the approval of four new semiconductor units by PM @narendramodi Ji at the Union Cabinet today. These units will lay the foundation for India to emerge as the global technology capital while creating massive employment opportunities for our youth."
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, emphasised that these units will create direct employment opportunities for 2,034 skilled professionals and are expected to catalyse the electronics manufacturing ecosystem, generating numerous indirect jobs.
"With these approvals, the total number of sanctioned projects under ISM rises to 10, representing cumulative investments of about Rs 1.60 lakh crore across 6 states," Gadkari said.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also hailed the decision, calling it a major boost for self-reliance in critical sectors.
"This landmark decision will accelerate India's self-reliance in critical sectors such as defence, electric mobility, artificial intelligence and high-tech manufacturing. It will generate thousands of jobs, boost the domestic electronics ecosystem, strengthen the supply chain and position India as a key global hub in semiconductor manufacturing," Singh said. (ANI)
