New Delhi [India], August 16 (ANI): Rajya Sabha MP and President of Supreme Court Bar Association Kapil Sibal on Friday launched a scathing attack against Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort saying that the statements that have come forward from the highest office in the last ten years have been utterly divisive.
"If you look at the history of India, in the last 10 years the kind of statements that have come from the highest office of the country, namely the office of the Prime Minister, have been so divisive that I don't think in the history of this country any Prime Minister has ever made the kind of divisive statements that our PM has made; not only him but also members of the political parties that he belongs to. But now, in Assam, the CM is talking about 'love jihad', 'flood jihad'...The kind of directives that were issued by the State of Uttar Pradesh when the Kanwariyas were going, saying that the names of owners should be given," said Sibal.
Condemning further the Rajya Sabha MP said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has destroyed the foundation of democracy by toppling the elected governments.
"The kind of things that they have been saying for years, this is not right. I think we should have a discussion on the Civil Code, there is no harm in having a discussion. But you can't do it when you have been taking forward a divisive agenda and then you are talking about Uniform Civil Code. Now, Triple Talaq has been abolished...What about Hindu women who have been thrown out of their houses?...What about Hindus who want to enter from Bangladesh? They have been denied entry because they are all Bengali Hindus. This is politics. When you talk about infiltration, who are the real infiltrators in this country? Those who usurp power by making people ministers and toppling elected governments...They have infiltrated into the political system and destroyed the foundation of democracy," he emphasised. (ANI)
