Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 24 (ANI): Samajwadi Party leader ST Hasan on Friday lambasted Delhi BJP for demanding proper verification of women voters wearing burqas, and claimed that Muslim women are being subjected to torture. Hasan also said that this is a way to decrease the voting percentage of Muslims.
Speaking with ANI, ST Hasan said that the polling stations should have the facility of biometric to prevent fake voting. "BJP is trying to do the 'Hindu-Muslim' thing again. They (BJP) should introduce the biometric system against fake voting. I would say that all the polling stations should have biometric. The machine will tell about the person as their Aadhaar card is linked and there will be no fake voting."
The leader added further, "It is a torture of Muslim women to decrease the Muslim voting percentage. I demand the ECI to conduct the polling through the biometric system... It is just a way to decrease the voting percentage of Muslims..."
On All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi's remarks that BJP wants to target Muslim women and creates an obstacle for them in the voting process, ST Hasan said, "What wrong he (Asaduddin Owaisi) is saying? You (BJP) are making the women remove their burqa and naqab. Now, will they be subjected to searching also? Who will go to vote? This is a way to decrease the voting percentage."
Earlier, a delegation of the Delhi BJP on Wednesday met the Chief Electoral officer (CEO) and demanded a proper verification of women voters wearing 'burqa' or face masks with the help of female officials during the May 25 polling.
Delhi is undergoing voting in a single phase on all seven Lok Sabha seats on May 25, with a fierce contest between the BJP and the INDIA bloc, comprising the AAP and Congress. The counting of votes and declaration of results will be done on June 4.
The Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress are fighting the elections in alliance in the national capital, with the AAP contesting four and the Congress three seats. The seven parliamentary constituencies in Delhi are Chandni Chowk, East Delhi, New Delhi, North East Delhi, North West Delhi, South Delhi, and West Delhi.
