Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], Nov 9 (ANI): Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday alleged that SPG cover of party leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has been withdrawn "as part of vendetta politics".
"The government has unceremoniously taken away the SPG security from Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. This is vendetta politics after not getting a positive mandate in the Haryana and Maharashtra elections," Gehlot said at a press conference here.
Gehlot claimed that SPG had said two-three months back SPG had said the Congress leaders were facing threats from terrorist organizations.
"The Narendra Modi government should give an answer on the removal of SPG security," he said.
The decision to take away the SPG cover was taken by the central government after a review of the security cover of the three Congress leaders. They will be accorded Z+ security and will be guarded by CRPF personnel. .
After the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, the SPG Act was amended to provide security to former Prime Ministers and their immediate families for a period of 10 years from the date on which the former Prime Minister ceased to hold office. (ANI)
