Ahmedabad (Gujarat), [India], Mar 7 (ANI): Amid speculation of his joining the BJP, OBC leader and Congress MLA Alpesh Thakor has called a meeting of his community leaders tomorrow to arrive at a decision, his close associate said on Thursday.
"BJP has contacted Alpesh Thakor but he has not contacted any BJP leader,” his close friend and Congress MLA Dhavalsinh Zala told ANI here.
Not ruling out Alpesh joining the BJP, he said the OBC leader will take “a decision that would benefit the Thakor community.”
“We have called a meeting of Thakor Sena leaders tomorrow afternoon. A decision will be taken at the meeting. We will hold a press conference and will state our decision," Zala said.
The comments come amid speculation that Aplesh is planning to join the BJP and might get a Cabinet berth in the Vijay Rupani government.
Meanwhile, addressing the media, BJP Gujarat president Jitu Vaghani said, "Anyone who believes in Prime Minister Narendra Modi is most welcome in the BJP."
Alpesh, who came to limelight due to his quota agitation some years back, joined the Congress in 2017 ahead of the last Gujarat polls and was elected from Radhanpur. (ANI)
