New Delhi [India], November 26 (ANI): Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad on Tuesday congratulated people on the occasion of Constitution Day and said that party promised to stand for the rights of the Dalits, backward and poor.
"I congratulate people on this occasion. On this occasion, we Samajwadis promise to stand for the rights of the Dalits, backwards and poor," he told ANI.
Hitting out state government, Prasad said, "The Constitution made by Babasaheb Ambedkar gives fundamental rights to the citizens. But this government is torturing the people in the name of religion...This government wants to end the preamble but we won't let it happen."
Reacting to the Sabhal violence, he said that Samajwadi Party will fight and action will be taken against those involved in the incident.
"The incident in Sambhal is painful. The government is responsible for this... The action will be taken against the officials, including the police and those who are involved. The FIR that has been registered (against MLA and the people) is completely wrong. The FIR has been filed so that the conduct of police should not be disclosed to the people. Samajwadi Party will fight and serve justice to the MLA and people there (in Sambhal."
Earlier SP MP Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday opposed the celebrations of the 75th Constitution Day and questioned how one could celebrate the day considering the kind of work the government did that had taken lives in Sambhal.
Speaking to the media, Yadav said, "I want to congratulate you on Constitution Day. True celebration is only when you follow the path of the Constitution. How can celebrations be held in the shadow of grief? Celebrating at a time when the kind of work the government has done in Sambhal when it has taken lives and justice is not being served. False cases are being filed against the MP there, the MLA and his son."
Deputy Inspector General of Police Moradabad Range, Muniraj G said that the situation is normal in Sambhal today.
"The situation is normal in Sambhal today. The markets are operational and functionally normally. People should not worry; those innocent will not be penalised. Till now, 7 FIRs have been filed. We are identifying people based on video footage," DIG Muniraj said.
Earlier today, the market in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal opened after violence following the stone pelting incident which took place when a team arrived to survey Shahi Jama Masjid on November 24. (ANI)
