Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 8 (ANI): Samajwadi Party leader Dharmendra Yadav expressed gratitude to the people of the Ayodhya days after the party won the Uttar Pradesh's Faizabad Lok Sabha seat, the BJP lost the seat where the Ayodhya Ram Mandir is located.
Dharmendra Yadav told reporters, "I thank the people ( of Ayodhya)... We are grateful to the people for the blessings they gave to the Samajwadi Party."
In Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party has thrown up a big surprise as it won 37 seats, becoming a single party in the state that sends the highest number of MPs to the Lok Sabha.
The construction of the Ram temple was one of the key planks of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) campaign across the country. Ironically, the poll pitch didn't work in Ayodhya itself. The Faizabad Lok Sabha constituency, in which the temple city falls, rejected its two-time MP Lallu Singh in the Lok Sabha polls.
When asked about the meeting chaired by SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav with newly elected MPs he said, "The Party chief will give you the details. I can't".
Dharmendra Yadav claimed a decisive victory in Azamgarh, defeating Dinesh Nirahua of the BJP by 161,035 votes. He secured a total of 508,239 votes.
On Narendra Modi taking oath as a Prime Minister for a rare third term, he said, " We will not say anything for the time being". According to sources, Narendra Modi is likely to take oath as the Prime Minister for the third consecutive time on June 9.
Replying to a query that BJP was claiming to win 80 out of 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, he said, "Now, they will answer it. I will not. They made a statement".
BJP candidate Lallu Singh lost to Samajwadi Party's Awadesh Prasad in Uttar Pradesh's Faizabad constituency. Prasad polled 54,567 more votes than the BJP candidate.
SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav, in a press conference on Thursday, expressed his gratitude towards the public of Ayodhya for making them victorious in the seat and expressed his views on the formation of the BJP-led NDA government in the centre.
The counting of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections was held on Tuesday. According to the Election Commission of India, the Samajwadi Party (SP) won 37 seats, the BJP won 33, the Congress won 6, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) won 2, and Aazad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) and Apna Dal (Soneylal) won 1 seat each in the Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh.
