SP 'family drama started with melody, ended in tragedy': Venkaiah Naidu

Panaji (Goa)[India], Jan. 22 (ANI): Hours after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that promised 'acche din' gave broom in the hands of the nation, Union Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday took a jibe at the Samajwadi Party and said the family drama that began with a melody later became a comedy and finally ended in a tragedy. "It is corruption, hooliganism and using communal politics for votes. People are completely tired of it and that is why these (SP) people conducted this family drama. It is a family drama, which started with a melody then became a comedy and finally ended in a tragedy," he said. Naidu also used the occasion to target the Congress, saying the grand old party has become so weak that it is riding on the Samajwadi Party's 'cycle'. "First of all he snatched away 'cycle' from father and now Congress is doing piggybacking. The Congress is so weak that it is riding on Akhilesh Yadav's 'cycle' in Uttar Pradesh. Who will get to the back side of the cycle is there to be seen. Having seen the SP, BSP the people are clear in their mind that they should go along with Modi," he added. Defending the demonetisation drive, Naidu said the nation tolerated temporary pain for long-term gain. "You can see in the newspapers. It is not my survey or government survey and overall the people of India are supporting demonetisation and the fight led by Narendra Modi ji over black money. Common people are appreciating that is why they are bearing temporary pain for long-term gain," Naidu added. On the issue of electoral reforms, Naidu said the government of the day is trying to build consensus. "The Prime Minister has already given indications that we cannot have reforms without consensus and definitely the government will move to build the consensus and go on electoral reforms," he said. Highlighting his development agenda as he announced the Samajwadi Party's election manifesto for the assembly polls, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav earlier in the day taunted the BJP's promise of 'achhe din'. Cornering Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Akhilesh said that people are desperately looking for those who had promised 'acche din'. "They promised to bring 'acchhe din', but three years have passed and the people of the state and the country are still searching for those 'acche din'. They have made us do yoga in place of 'acchhe din' and sometimes gave us 'jhaadu'(broom) to hold while we waited for 'acche din'," he added while asking the BJP to define its concept of 'acche din'. After days of negotiation, an alliance between the Samajwadi Party and the Congress has finally been sealed. The Congress party will be allotted 105 seats in the upcoming elections. (ANI)
